Final's essay

A couple things I learned this year was how the post things on my blog and also how to identify certain parts of a story. I learned how to identify the mood, tone, and the theme because I didn't learn anything last year. I also learned a lot of new words this year and read some AP and college level books. Those books I would never have because they are way over my level. I like how we didn't have to read about the stories in the books because the stories in the book because the stories are super boring.

I've been able to be more efficiently participate in the world outside of school because everytime I post something on my blog there is someone from France that is always viewing my blogs when I post them. I think it is awesome how people from other countries can see what I post.

Emerson Child Essay

In the the essay on self reliance by Emerson you learn about him as a thinker and how he go about thing and how he see everything. In the following paragraphs I will explain his syntax his tone and diction as if i was saying it to a 10 year old.

In this first paragraph I am a explain his syntax. The way Emerson chooses and uses his word are pretty straight foward it not like young good man brown where you would need to look up alot of words even as an adult. Emerson uses alot of qoutes to get his message through. For exsample one of my favorite qoute are "Do not think the youth has no force, because he cannot speak to you and me. Hark! in the next room his voice is sufficiently clear and emphatic."This is one one of my favorite qoutes because it saying us as younger kids had forces because we would scream out what we want and wouldn't let us be affected by other people but as we grow older we be more careful with what we do because of how other people would look at us.His syntax is similar to his diction.

In this paragraph I will explain Emerson diction or his choice of word in a particular situation. Emerson choice of word in his essay is pretty obvious for exsample his whole main point of the story is how we let others get into are minds to judge us. We as people care what others think about us and that his point we shouldn't care what other think about us but it unfortunate that we do anyways. For exsample Emerson said "Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again." Which means speak what you want and don't let any one get in the way of it or let them judge you.

In this story Emerson tone is more of a disappointment of how the world became as we grew older. Emerson just want peace and for everyone to be diffrernt and not to be judge. For exsample he said
"I wish it to be sound and sweet, and not to need diet and bleeding. I ask primary evidence that you are a man, and refuse this appeal from the man to his actions. " This mean he want everything to be quiet and non judgementap and for us to die and say what we want with out let anyone bring you ng you down or feel uncomfortable. Emerson tone is just depression and disappointment of what world had to become.

As you can see in the last paragraphs I disscused the syntax, diction, main idea, and tone in a way for a 10 year old to understand. As a 10 year old he/she should know his main idea was to not let no one judge you an to be yourself like you did when you were younger.

-The comparison between Jessica's Blog and the poem is that she interprets it as an actual story of Immigrants, but I interpret it as a Metaphor for new inmates in Jimmy Santiago Baca's prison.

My Emerson

My quote: "The secret of fortune is joy in our hands."

I think it means that if you actually work hard you will be successful and no one can take that away from you.

Literature analysis #2

1. Briefly summarize the plot of the novel you read, and explain how the narrative fulfills the author's purpose (based on your well-informed interpretation of same).

In the story "Be careful what you wish for" by R.L. Stine the plot is first helping the lady who grants wishes. Then saying the wishes but carefully and not taking all the wishes at once and lastly be careful what you say.

2. Succinctly describe the theme of the novel. Avoid clichés.

In the story the theme is giving Samantha three wishes but the wishes were granted as close as possible to the wishes but not always right and ruined life's.

3. Describe the author's tone. Include a minimum of three excerpts that illustrate your point(s).

The author tone of the author was mixed emotions. One emotion was happy. Another one was sadness. Lastly was a fierce emotion. The author tone changed from happy to scared when Samantha wishes that she was better then the whole basketball team because the wish made everyone weak but her.

4. Describe a minimum of ten literary elements/techniques you observed that strengthened your understanding of the author's purpose, the text's theme and/or your sense of the tone. For each, please include textual support to help illustrate the point for your readers. (Please include edition and page numbers for easy reference.)

Setting: is taken place at the school, forest, and at Samantha house. I know these places are the plots because that where the author told the reader.
Conflict: Samantha didn't get along with the other girls and was the worst player on the basketball team.
 Mood: fierce
Genre: fiction
Point of view: Third Person

Characters aren't people, but they often provide the most compelling connection with a text.

1. Describe two examples of direct characterization and two examples of indirect characterization.
- Direct characterization- When Judith and Anna got into a fight.
-Direct characterization- When Judith tripped Samantha on purpose.
-Indirect characterization- When Samantha wishes for Judith to disappear.
Indirect characterization- When Samantha turned into a bird.

Why does the author use both approaches, and to what end (i.e., what is your lasting impression of the character as a result)?

The author uses indirect and direct characterization to make the reading interesting. My last impression on the story was does Judith ever take back her wish.

2. Does the author's syntax and/or diction change when s/he focuses on character? How? Example(s)?

Yes because Judith went from being mean to Sam to being nice to Sam.

3. Is the protagonist static or dynamic? Flat or round? Explain.

It dynamic because all the changing in whishes and emotions.

4. After reading the book did you come away feeling like you'd met a person or read a character? Analyze one textual example that illustrates your reaction.

Yes and No because I know the Characters attitude but it changes from the wishes so I quite didn't get to met the rest of Judith.

response to "Young Goodman Brown"

In the beginning of this story I found that the author is always reminding us about the pink ribbon. I think the ribbon had a meaning and I think it meant to be happy and joyful. I think the meaning of the story was to always stay together and don't back down.

response to "The Conscience of the Hacker"

I found this essay pretty interesting. As a reader you can tell that he is angry and spiteful. what the author is trying to say is everyone is different and the hackers aren't criminals.
